Music
is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. When we listen to music it
connects to our brain thereby altering how it functions. It has healing powers
over our body and spirit, it touches our inner self, and it’s therapeutic. It
may make us happy or sad depending on the songs that we listen to. It somehow
brings us back to the memories that go with each song, which could be sad or
happy recollections of our past.
Let me
reminisce and share with you the story that goes with one of my favorite songs…
Dan Fogelberg - Longer
Imagine
yourself on vacation in a fishing village…
One
lovely afternoon while sitting on a bamboo bench that rests outside a bamboo
house, just a few meters from the seashore, overlooking the deep blue seas; the
gentle breeze tosses your hair and you suddenly hear a new and pleasant melody
from somewhere …
♫♪♫ Longer
than there've been fishes in the ocean …
♫♪♫ Higher
than any bird ever flew …
♫♪♫ Longer than there've been stars up in the heavens … ♫♪♫
… you
close your eyes and savor the moment listening to the soothing music … light
winds embrace your skin giving you the calmness and quiet serenity by the sea
when someone unexpectedly sits beside you ... you open up your eyes to see …
isang kalbong lalaking nagpapakilala at gustong manligaw … panira ng moment,
bwissettt!!!
But it
was actually one of the most relaxing times I had during that vacation, until
that bwiset guy came in the picture, that this song by Dan Fogelberg became one
of my favorites. It actually brings back the memories of my first visit to my
grandparents in the province and how I became ill during the whole experience
of shifting from girlhood to womanhood.
